It was really great to finally secure a place in the London Marathon! A big thank you goes to VITALISE for letting me run on their behalf! Now comes a small matter of training for it and raising the money. I’m really, really excited!More soon...
I've been doing a bit of exercise for a few months now. I've always done a fair amount of walking, but decided to step it up a bit ... I found myself out most days during the summer walking briskly for 40 - 60 minutes. Some crazy idea popped into my head about 2 months ago ... why not try jogging for a short distance? ... ermm yea right ! ... like most people who haven't done much serious exercise for a while, I managed about 100m of running before running out of breath and thought I wouldn't...
It's been a while since I did this former favourite route - a ten mile or so off road loop, undulating and hilly in parts - wasn't sure if I'd complete the distance (sore knees) so I had the option of cutting the run short at various points and heading back to the start.Setting off from a near deserted car park at Camer Park on the North Downs It was teeming with rain and very squelchy underfoot. Soon got into a regular rythm and after a while the rain didn't bother me. Cursed myself for...
My first marathon was in 2007 running for The Antony Nolan Trust and although I enjoyed the day so much I hated every minute of the training and swore never to put myself through it again.I decided to run the marathon because my dear aunt was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2005 and it really opened my eyes and helped put my life into perspective. Although it probably wasn't the right time to decide to take part in such a massive event when at the same time I was studying at evening school...
As Ellie's Boys' Outing captain it is my job to boss motivate my team and ensure we win get the guys fit and raring to go for the Norwich Half Marathon. It is the taking part that counts. It really is. But winning is nice and personal bests are a must would be nice. Let me introduce you to the winning bunch… Ellie Matthews: Virgin Runners spokesperson / founder / cheerleader / boss / nag / enthusiast / Captain…(insert choice words here) Goal: I'm currently still...
In December last year, my aunt lost her long battle with cancer. In her memory I have signed up to hike the Inca Trail for Macmillan Cancer Support. My aunt spoke of the Macmillan nurses as if they were saints to her, and I can think of no better tribute to her memory.I will be joining around 60 people trekking the Inca Trail as part of Macmillan's Peru Hiking Challenge, between 29 May and 7 June 2009. The 10 day challenge will take us through cloud forest to a 4200m Andean peak, trekking along...
Today was officially my 4 day of training, and I have to admit that it was hard to finish. I wanted to quit about halfway through my run, but I finished. I'm still walking/running, but I'm able to run a bit further each time I'm training which is encouraging. I'm still trying to find a group to run with on the weekends to help with my pace once I'm able to run consistently for about 3 miles. Will definitely enjoy my rest day tomorrow and will need to do a little icing...
Felt really emotional watching GNR this morning, though not in the way I thought I would. Rather than feeling sorry for myself that I couldn't be there, I found myself bound to the journey all those runners have taken to get there, I could feel the footfalls of every mile trained, all of the emotional ups and downs, every pleasure, every pain, and, as much as I have always enjoyed watching that race, and the London Marathon, I've never enjoyed it quite as much as I did this morning. You...
well, here is my first post on my brand new blog! just arrived back home from watching (!!) the Great North Run. Gutted! Was suppossed to be running today with Chris (my brother) having got myself into half decent shape since August. Pulled my back a couple of weeks ago and had to withdraw last week as it just wasn't going to be right.did I do the right thing? Probably. I could have staggered around the course but the way it is feeling after a weekend in the...
